Accessibility

Q Minnesota is for the whole community, and that includes readers who use screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers or captions. We build qminnesota.com to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA and keep working toward it.

What we do

Text and background colors are checked for contrast before a design ships. Body text is never smaller than 15 pixels, and the site can be zoomed to 200 percent without losing content. Every page works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline on links and buttons. Photos carry alternative text, and headings are used in order so the page structure reads the same with a screen reader as it does on screen.

Where we fall short

Some parts of the site come from other companies and we cannot fix everything inside them: the events calendar, the newsletter and directory forms, advertising, and embedded video. We choose these tools with accessibility in mind and report problems to the vendors when we find them. Older articles and PDFs of the print magazine may not meet the same standard as new content.

Tell us what is not working

If any part of qminnesota.com is hard to use, email info@qminnesota.com with the page link and what happened. Reports go straight to the people who build the site. If you need a story in another format, ask and we will do our best.
